Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God.
Ephesians 2:19
Ask people after the service where they come from, and you will hear a dozen answers. Geneva is a city of arrivals: diplomats and students, nurses and engineers, families who came for a few years and stayed for thirty.
Paul wrote to the church in Ephesus, another great port city full of foreigners. Jews and Gentiles sat in the same room and did not quite know how to be one people. His answer was not a programme but a person: Christ “is our peace, who hath made both one”.
The word he uses for household is the word for a family home. You are not a visitor waiting to be accepted, or a member on probation. If you belong to Christ, you belong to his family, and so you belong here.
If you are new, come early on Sunday and have a coffee with us; the café opens at 10:00. If you have been here for years, look for the person sitting alone, and say hello.
